Meet Mrs. Scoggin
I grew up in Galesburg and have lived here for most of my life. I graduated from Galesburg High School, went on to get my Associates in Science at Carl Sandburg College, and finished my Bachelors of Science in Education at Western Illinois University. I am endorsed to teach elementary and middle school math, English/language arts, and social studies. I also graduated as an "Outstanding Pre-Service Teacher" in my class, as nominated by my professors and clinical mentors.
After finishing college, I moved to West Jordan, Utah, where I began my career in a 4th grade, year round classroom. There I served as a student council advisor, taught music and art as well as my 4th grade classroom, and even got my students published in a poetry publication in the state of Utah! I loved every minute of my time there, but after a few years I met my husband, and we moved back to Illinois to be closer to my family. I took a few years off to be with my children, and at seeing the opportunity to teach in my home district, I couldn't resist. This is my fifth year teaching math at Lombard, and it has been a true joy to be a part of this community again.
I have had the opportunity to visit the Ron Clark Academy in Atlanta, Georgia to hone my math teaching skills and many of my practices were inspired by my experiences there. I have also been humbled to be awarded the Big Red Apple Award in Galesburg in April of 2016 and was a finalist for the Rosenthal National Prize, a national award for math educators during the 2016-2017 school year.
Welcome to my classroom! I know we'll enjoy the year.
